Detection for Matrix Barcode inside Fabricated Object via a X-ray Computed Tomography Scanner

(in English) As 3D printers come into popularity, 3D data for fabrication are being distributed. Copyrights of 3D data should be also protected in a similar manner as those of digital contents, such as music, movie and e-book. However, off-the-shelf 3D scanners, whose scanning resolution is highly improved, can produce the almost same shaped object as the original objects fabricated from the copyrighted 3D data, with violating their copyrights. In this report, we propose a noble technique for protecting the copyrights of the fabricated object. The proposed technique embeds an ID data into the 3D data in order to make an ID object expressing a matrix barcode hided inside the fabricated object. The ID object indicating the copyright information cannot be observed unless destroying the fabricated object. In order to read the ID object, we propose to use a X-ray CT scanner, which is expensive and cannot be easily used. Our experiment shows that the X-ray CT scanner can extract a 2D matrix barcode image from the ID object hided in the scanned fabricated object.
