A Study of Power Saving for Wireless LAN Stations by Virtual Networks Utilizing Multiple BSSIDs

(in English) We propose a power-saving method for reducing the power consumption of wireless LAN stations (STAs) and delay. In the IEEE802.11 standard, a STA in power saving mode requests frames buffered in the wireless LAN access point (AP) using a PS-Poll frame after receiving the beacon. If more than one STAs are connected with the AP, they must wait in Awake mode during the transmission of other STAs. Because of this waiting time, the power is consumed and the latency is increased. Ina load balancing technology, a STA re-associates with a physically different AP. Borrowing the idea of load balancing, a STA changes virtually the connection destination within a single AP using multiple BSSID. As a result, the power consumption and delay are reduced because STAs receive only a beacon concerning the virtual own BSS.
