Measurements on Anomalous Skin Effect at Room Temperature in 1THz Band

(in English) The anomalous skin effect at room temperature (T = 300 K) is observed by measuring a frequency dependence of the surface resistance of gold in 0.75-1.1 THz band for the first time. It is shown that the surface resistance is proportional to the frequency to the power of 0.54, which is between the theoretical exponent values of the classical skin effect, 0.5, and that of the anomalous skin effect, 0.667. Therefore, it is concluded that the surface resistance is in a transition between the classical skin effect region and the anomalous skin effect region in the band. Similar surface resistance measurements at the V-band reveals that the surface resistance corresponds well with the theoretical results derived by the classical skin effect, and the validity of the measurement scheme is confirmed.
