Speech intelligibility affected by acoustic characteristics changed in utterance under noisy environment.

(in English) The aim of this study is to construct a control method of acoustic characteristics for improving speech intelligibility under noisy environment. In this paper, we analyzed acoustic characteristics changes in an utterance under noisy environment compared with an utterance under quiet environment, and investigated effects of the characteristics on speech intelligibility through psychoacoustic experiments. Analysis results showed the clear changes in three types of characteristics, which are a mean pitch frequency, a pitch frequency range, and a spectral intensity around 3 kHz. Experimental results indicated that the control of each characteristic contributed to speech intelligibility improvement under noisy environment, and the contributions of the mean pitch frequency and the pitch frequency range especially were large.
