Design of Parallel Ring-Lines Type Rat-Race Circuit with Loose Coupling Utilizing Short-Circuited Coupled lines

(in English) This paper describes a rat-race hybrid with loose coupling using parallel ring-lines which compose of a quarter wavelength transmission line and a short-circuited coupled transmission line. For a conventional rat-race circuit, the minimum coupling factor is limited by the highest impedance of ring-lines that can be manufactured on a printed circuit board (PCB). The proposed rat-race circuits with parallel ring-lines can be realized couplers with loose coupling factors of less than -10 dB by reducing the difference between two admittance of parallel ring-lines. The rat-race circuit with a coupling factor of -20 dB can be successfully designed. Finally, validity of this design method can be also shown by carrying electromagnetic simulation.
