Synthesis and Dynamic Design of Structured Soft Material Derived from Metal Complexes

(in English) Self-organization could cover structural and dynamic order of both equilibrium structure and non-equilibrium, incorporating nonlinear chemical processes and energy flow concerning dissipative structure. One dissipative structure that exhibits temporal and spatiotemporal oscillation is known to be chemically generated by the famous Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BX) reaction. Rhythmic oscillation of the Ruthenium porphyrin solution by BZ reaction was demonstrated without any on-off switching of external stimuli for the first time. The reaction was performed in the presence of bromate ion, malonic acid, and the metal catalyst in sulfuric acid solution. In the course of the reaction, the oscillating waveform of the Ruthenium porphyrin was affected by the concentration of the components, especially the metal catalyst. When the solution was homogeneously stirred at room temperature, the color of the solution periodically changed every 5 min. based on the redox changes of the porphyrin.
