Speech Features Affecting Comprehension and Impression of Presentation

(in English) The presentation skills have come to be valued in this sophisticated information society, and various actions to improve presentation skills have been taken in a number of tertiary educational institutes which aim to foster members of such a society. In developing the presentation skills, feedback given by the audience plays an important role. However, time constraints make it difficult for a speaker to get enough feedback from an audience who can evaluate the presentation. We have developed a learning support system to improve the presentation skills. This system enables peer evaluation and automatic analysis of the presentation speech by using the Web. The learners can see the features of his/her verbal delivery in the graphic form. In this paper, the relationships between comprehension and impression of the presentation and the speech features are discussed considering the results of subjective evaluation and speech analysis.
