[Special Talk] FR4-Substrate-Fabricated and Small-Sized Broadband Microwave Amplifier

(in English) This paper presents design and fabrication of a broadband microwave amplifier for Microwave Circuit Design Universiade 2013.
This amplifier is simply designed and tuned by a source resistor for bias.
In the fabrication, we selected a commercially available FR4 substrate for low cost.
However, such a thick substrate with via-hole has parasitic inductance and affects amplifier gain.
Therefore, we designed its layout with coplanar-like structure.
In addition, we employed 2-stage amplifier to make it more broadband.
As the result in the universiade, the fabricated amplifier exhibited over 10-dB gain in 2.4 to 6.25 GHz with its bandwidth 3.85 GHz and fractional bandwidth 0.89.
The amplifier has no reflection gain under 10-GHz band.
We re-measured this amplifier because its gain had not achieved 10-dB gain in lower band at the universide.
As the re-measured result, the fabricated amplifier achieves over 10-dB gain in 100 MHz to 6.25 GHz with its bandwidth 6.15 GHz and fractional bandwidth 1.94.
