Evaluation of Acoustic Properties of Prostatic Cancer Tissues Using Ultrasonic Microscope

(in English) Among patients with prostate cancer, the method to detect fine cancerous lesions has been required for focal therapy to maintain QOL after therapy. In this study, we extracted cancerous and noncancerous regions from a paraffin embedded prostatic specimen of patients with prostatic cancer. The acoustic properties of prostatic tissue were measured using ultrasonic microscope. The significant differences in acoustic properties between cancerous and noncancerous regions were observed. Though the research requires further experiments for confirmation of acoustic properties in different pathological specimens, detection of fine cancerous lesion by ultrasound would be promising by interpreting the results in the lower frequency of ultrasound.
