Fundamental Study on classification of summer and winter tires using road surface vibration

(in English) In winter season, traffic regulations mandate that automobile drivers should use winter tires for safety at various places on snowy expressway. The present report is concerned with the development of an automatic tire discrimination system that enable to examine winter and summer tires with high accuracy. The system focus on the impact vibration signal that generates and travels on the road surface when tread block with wide grooves of winter tire strike the road surface during rolling. In this paper, we pay attention to improve accuracy of the system. First, we calculate characteristic frequency by 2 vibration signals. Second, we compared vibration signals of different axis and considered which signal can be more significant for classification. In result, we proposed method using frequency prediction could classify summer and winter tires above 90 % accuracy.
