Owing to the occurrence of the Great East Japan Earthquake and a rise in concern about the global warming issue, we are required to review the conventional Japanese life style and especially improve our awareness of energy conservation. At schools, education on energy conservation as a part of the environmental education field attracts our attention. The technology for visualization of electric power consumption has been developed as a tool to promote energy conservation activity. In this research, we propose a novel system to promote energy conservation activity at schools using a sensor network constructed by Eco Assist Clocks (EACs). The EAC contains photo and wind sensors which can detect the operating state (ON / OFF) of lights and air conditioners in the classrooms and moreover, embeds a wireless module to construct a network. It enables us to monitor the energy consumption in classrooms in real time. The system has the following features: offers various services for energy conservation activity, low price and ease of installation, visualization of power consumption in conjunction with the school time table in real time. We present the completeness of the proto-type equipment and confirm its performance and usefulness. |
