School adaptation and mobile phone dependence among junior high school students

(in English) We conducted a questionnaire survey of roughly 2,000 parents with children who had just graduated from junior high school. The survey investigated the students’ number of absent days, self-injurious behavior, eating disorders and trends, the degree of damages caused by bullying, and dependence on cell phones while attending junior high school. The results suggested that those students who exhibited a strong dependence on cell phones had many absent days and low school adaptation. However, the Covariance Structure Analysis revealed that their school adaptation was not influenced by their dependence on cell phones. Instead, their dependence on cell phones and school adaptation were both influenced by factors related to their school maladaptation, such as damages caused by bullying. Therefore, a pseudo-correlation may exist between their dependence on cell phones and school adaptation.
