Gestural and Phonetic Analysis for Characteristics of Persuasive Speeches
Yukiko Hirabayashi, Yoshinori Kitahara (Hitachi) HCS2013-112
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We have investigated characteristics of nonverbal signals, especially prosody and face motion, of the persuasive speeches. In prosody of voice, maximum and average pitch of the persuasive speeches were greater than these of unpersuasive speakers and dynamic range of pitch of the persuasive speakers was wider than that of the unpersuasive speakers. Furthermore, maximum and average lengths of silent pauses of the persuasive speakers were longer than these of unpersuasive speakers and dynamic range of pitch of the persuasive speakers was wider than that of the unpersuasive speakers. In the face motion, we found persuasive speakers move their faces mainly from side to side, and move the faces sparingly during their utterances.
