Routing and MAC (Medium Access Control) protocols using directional antennas can utilize knowledge of a direction. For example, it is possible to reduce redundant traffic by controlling propagation direction of a packet based on positional relation between nodes. To implement direction-oriented communication protocols, we must make a mechanism to detect a direction from which packet comes. In this study, we construct a communication testbed containing a DOA (direction of arrival) detection mechanism by using GNU Radio and USRP. In our testbed, one node consists of two USRPs, and each USRP has a directional antenna. The node measures RSSIs (Received Signal Strength Indicator) at each USRP and detects a DOA by comparing two RSSIs. To show usefulness of our testbed, we implement DORP (Direction Oriented Routing Protocol) which is a routing protocol using knowledge of a direction. DORP can significantly reduce the time required to switch a route than AODV (Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector). This testbed enables us to implement and evaluate a routing protocol using knowledge of a direction. |
