Evaluation of Packet Loss Effect on Segmented Download Using SCTP Multi-streaming
Junichi Funasaka, Kenji Ishida (Hiroshima City Univ.) NS2013-196
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A lot of devices connect to the Internet through wireless media, and
they often download large files or video files to play them. Since the
existing transport protocol, TCP, manages only one
channel (stream) per connection to guarantee the packet order so that the
unnecessary waiting time is consumed even when mutually independent
data packets are transmitted concurrently. To address the issue, a
segmented file download method using SCTP multistream function which
can manage several logical channels in a connection has been
proposed. In the previous researches, the performance of segmented
file download using the SCTP multistream function has been evaluated
on the network in which random losses occur. This research evaluates
the performance of the SCTP multistream function on the network in
which burst losses occur.
