Node Density Estimation for Store-Carry-Forward Routing

(in English) In order to reduce the number of message copies in mobile ad hoc networks in DTN (Delay/Disruption Tolerant Network) environments, Store-Carry-Forward routing schemes have been considered based on a node density at the contact location where two nodes encounter. In these routing schemes, it is necessary to incorporate node density estimation methods for estimating node density over the network. In this paper, we consider two node density estimation methods. One is a parametric density estimation with EM (Expectation Maximization) algorithm, and the other is a non-parametric density estimation with a Gaussian kernel estimator. We discuss the advantage and disadvantage of these two methods from a viewpoint of the mobile ad hoc networks. Moreover, with simulation experiments, we evaluate the performance of routing schemes incorporated with these two schemes.
