(in English) In this paper, we propose an image retrieval system for handwritten Japanese historical documents.
In this system, image data is stored together with feature graphs ({it document graph}) which express structural information of characters written to
each line of the image data. Structural information of a search string is specified by a feature graph ({it search graph}).
Images of historical documents of which partial region is similar to the search string are retrieved by obtaining a document graph with
a similar subgraph to the search graph. To obtain document graph, in addition to the search graph, {it indispensable graph} must
be specified. The graph shows an indispensable structure which should be included in search results.
