Circadian rhythm is disordered by jet lag. It is considered that the disorder derives from a collapse of circadian rhythm synchronization in suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), which is the master clock of the circadian rhythm. However, its mechanism is still unclear. In this study, we developed a mathematical model of the SCN that is composed of two populations of globally coupled phase oscillators. We will show that the model exhibits behaviors in a typical jet lag symptom as observed in experiments: an eight-hour-phase advance causes a terrible jet lag and it takes eight or nine days to recover from it. |
