Visually Natural Privacy Protection for Maintaining Image Context

(in English) Most images captured by mobile cameras or smartphones, contain not only people who are the main subjects of the images but also people nearby.
It is difficult for photographers to get permission from all people nearby in the images for sharing the images with their appearance through the Internet. Therefore, the appearances of the people nearby must be hidden using a privacy obscuration method before they are published. However, widely-used privacy obscuration methods, such as blurring and blocking out, may make the obscured regions visually unnatural and remove facial expression, which is important image context showing the situation of the main subjects. In this paper, we propose a visually natural privacy protection method keeping facial expressions in order to maintain image context by using Image Melding and experimentally demonstrate the performance of the method.
