Access Point Selection Method for Wireless LAN Power Saving Scheme by Broadcast Proxy

(in English) According to the IEEE 802.11 standard, Access Points (APs) in the wireless LAN always consume the
power regardless of the traffic. Therefore, in order to reduce the power consumption in the wireless LAN, we have
proposed the Radio-On-Demand Networks, which provides the power saving schemes based on the APs' utilization.
In the ROD, APs switch to sleep mode with low utilization to reduce power consumption. However, the sleeping
AP should wake up by broadcast packets that sent from other nodes. Thus, we have proposed the power saving
scheme using a broadcast proxy with an AP for ROD. In this paper, we propose an AP selection method for wireless
LAN power saving scheme using the broadcast proxy in ROD. From simulation studies, we show that the proposed
scheme can improve power saving performance.
