Recently, IC chips implementing encryption circuit is widely used in various applications such as electronic money, credit card, and user authentication. The attacking methods exploiting secret information by the side-channel attacks, or physical analysis stored in the nonvolatile memory are concerned as risks to these ICs. As a countermeasure against these attacks, we have developed a highly secure authentication system. In this system, the side-channel attack resistant AES encryption circuit using the Hybrid Masking Dual-Rail ROM (HMDR-ROM) scheme are combined with the Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) technology, in which a chip-specific information can be generated from the manufacturing variations.
