Regulation of acetylcholine to excitatory postsynaptic potential and spike back-propagation in hippocampal CA1 dendrite

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Acetylcholine (ACh) acts as a “modulator” on the initiation of synaptic plasticity. . The retrograde spikes called back-propagating action potentials (bAPs) is considered to play an important role in the initiation of synaptic plasticity. The purpose of this study was how acetylcholine influences the bAP along dendrites. To probe the spatio-temporal dynamics of bAP, we employed an optical imaging method with voltage-sensitive dye. As a result, the amplitude of bAP was suppressed by carbachol, acetylcholine receptor agonist.. Therefore, the synaptic plasticity along dendrites could be affected by means of the suppression of bAPs.
