Motion analysis of air hockey players -- Motion cues inducing the opponent's defense action --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It is broadly accepted that humans determine their actions in a predictive manner so as to compensate the large delay in their sensorimotor system. In the present study, we asked what sensory information was referred to as the clues for the predictive motor planning. To this end, we picked up air hockey as a research subject because it requires the players to respond within a few milliseconds and players’ motion can be measured within an experimental room. We analyzed the defender’s actions and its relationship with the offender’s actions when the offender tried to shoot a puck toward either side of the hockey board. The result indicates that the defender determined his action based on the offender’s body movement before the offender hit a puck, and that the defender made more errors if the offender’s movement trajectory showed little difference between the pack shooting directions.
