Human Activity Rcognition with Skeleton-data and Structured Hierarchical Hidden Markov Model

(in English) Recognition of human activities nowadays is used not only for monitoring system, but also interface,
motion analysis of skilled players and nursing. It is further desired to recognize a larger variety of activities to
support human ’s daily life. In the existing studies, human motions have been represented via a Hidden Markov
Model assuming each motion consists of series of poses. However, an increase in the number of motion classes,
especially in daily life, leads to an increase in the parameter number, hence to increasing computational burden and
over-fitting to fairly small amount of available data. In this report, we propose a Structured Hierarchical Hidden
Markov Model to exploit the hierarchical representation of motions and correlation between body parts. When
applied to human-body skeleton time-series measured by Kinect cameras, our method showed reasonably good
recognition performance especially in recognition tasks consisting of many behavioral classes.
