| (in English) | This study will address itself to a generalization of our previous SSBCI (silent speech Brain-Computer Interface), which had been constructed in terms of vowel recognitions, to consonant recognition. In our experiment, a subject was requested to speak each season (spring, summer, autumn and winter) in Japanese or to silently speak. And we simultaneously measured speech signal, EMG (electromyogram) and 13-ch EEGs. First, using a Kalman filter, we described the relationship between spectrograms of the speech signals and EEGs whose dipole solutions were localized to the Broca’s area. The spectrograms were transformed into vowel and/or consonant sequences, and these relationships were learned by Hidden Markov Model (HMM) with Gaussian mixture densities. Next, we predicted spectrograms for the SS task from the Kalman filter. By were inputting the spectrograms to the HMM, which "season" was silently spoken was successfully determined by the maximal log-likelihood among each HMM output. | |
