Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) When spatial smoothing(SS) is used as a preprocessing for direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation using an array antenna, the effective array aperture is reduced to the size of subarray. This usually results in degradation of angular resolution and decrease of number of incident waves which can be estimated. In order to improve this situation, we focus on spatial smoothing using the augmented array aperture technique called SSIA (spatial smoothing with improved effective aperture) for DOA estimation. It is a technique of overcoming the drawback that the effective array aperture is reduced in using SS. However, if multiple snapshots are utilized, SSIA cannot work well because the array steering vector (mode vector) changes depending on snapshots. In this paper, therefore, we propose an improved technique of using the augmented array aperture in a similar manner, which is called SSOA (spatial smoothing with overlapped effective aperture). Afterwards, we show via computer simulation that the proposed technique provides higher accuracy of DOA estimation for the case where more than one snapshot is available.
