The spatial information of sound fields can be encoded using the spherical harmonic functions. This is often applied to sound field recording and reproduction systems in what is known as high-order Ambisonics. Sound field encodings of this nature can also be synthesized to produce a virtual auditory scene. However, the discrete nature of digital signals can introduce artifacts in the encoding of moving sound sources. The present research derives an exact expression for the spherical harmonic decomposition of a moving point source. The result can be applied to synthesize accurate high-order Ambisonics encodings of dynamic scenes. |
