Practical evaluation of WAN acceleration feature in vCPE

(in English) In recent years, the network features such as DHCP and NAT , which has been deployed in the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) has been studied to deploy to such carrier network side, as Network Function Virtualization (NFV). By NFV, effecting CAPEX and OPEX reduction, and increased flexibility of enhancements can be expected, because various functions are integrated into the network side. In this study, we focus on the WAN acceleration that are provided to corporate users primarily as one of the network services. This is accomplished by placing WAN Optimization Controller (WOC) in each user site. It can be expected to reduce the required number of devices by the virtualization of this WOC. However, WOC virtualization, there is a concern that the distance between the user terminal and virtualized WOC is increased, the effect of speed is reduced.
In this report, we evaluate these trade-off and propose the remedy at the time of virtualization of the WOC.
