The purpose of our study is the application of pulse compressed parametric sound source, which forms a low frequency directive sound beam with improved range resolution, for ultrasound distance measurement and sonography. This technique realizes ultrasonic imaging with a deeper penetration depth. In this report, the relationship between the target size and the echo level of compressed parametric sound echo was experimentally investigated to consider the detectable size of target by parametric sound. The echoes of chirp modulated parametric sound with a bandwidth of 400 kHz from the brass rods of 2-8 mm in diameter, which were settled in water were received and cross-correlated by a reference signal as a post signal processing. The experimentally obtained compressed echo level from the target of 2mm in diameter was a half of that of 8~mm in diameter, so that the target of 2 mm was able to be detected. However, it is found that appropriately designed transmitting and receiving transducers and driving signal are needed to reduce direct sound signals from the transmitting transducer for an image in a near field. |
