[Invited Talk] Overview of the LTE/EPC QoS

(in English) While the better part of the communication in the mobile network has been changing from voice calls to data communication, the architecture of mobile network has also changed from the mixture of Circuit Switch (CS) and Packet Switch (PS) to the PS only. In the PS system, even voice calls have been converted to packets to transmit/receive. IP Packet Switch architecture has some advantages to the CS because it is easier and more reasonable to increase lines. Also, it is easier to accommodate much more users at the same time. On the other hand, an end-to-end delay would also increase depending on the number of routers and switches in between or how congested in the mobile network. Especially, as for the Voice over LTE (VoLTE) expected to be prevailed within a few years, it would become of much importance technologically in terms of delay to ensure that the quality of the voice stays the same as before.
In this report, we outline the current QoS architecture of the EPC/LTE.
