During the Sapporo Snow Festival Verification Test Event hosted by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in February 2014, we successfully performed the world's first experiment on simultaneous bi-directional transmission, storing, and distribution of uncompressed 8K (7,680 x 4,320 pixels, 16 times the resolution of HDTV) ultra-high-definition (UHD) live-streaming video, as well as uncompressed 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) UHD live-streaming video. To realize an uncompressed 8K UHD live-streaming video transmission system, we implemented a synchronized multilane transmission method using several 4K video transmission boxes and two 4K video servers. |
