(in English) Lip reading is a technique of understanding speech content by visually acquiring the movements of the lips. This technology is not given to the practical use level, although various applications including the assistance of audio speech recognition and the communication support for the speech disorder is expected. In this paper, we describe basic methods of lip reading and some research topics, such as public databases, target speech contents, devices, camera directions, frame rate, and applications.
