Design of Left-Handed Rectangular Waveguide Using Cutoff TE- and TM-modes

(in English) It has been proposed that a left-handed waveguide can be constructed using negative permittivity derived from the cut-off TE mode of the waveguide. Also it has been proposed by authors that a left-handed circular waveguide can be constructed using negative permeability derived from the cut-off TM mode of the waveguide. In this paper, a left-handed rectangular waveguide using cut-off TM mode is designed, and a construction of a left-handed waveguide using cut-off TE and TM modes is attempted. The latter left-handed waveguide consists of periodically arranged cut-off TE and TM modes waveguides. First, the constitutive principles of the left-handed waveguides are described. Then, the dispersion characteristics and the S-parameters of the structure are shown by numerical computations.
