Frequency-phase synchronization of regeneratively and harmonically mode-locked fiber ring laser using Digital Signal Processing -- A study on control algorithm --

(in English) When synchronizing the repetition frequency of a regeneratively and harmonically mode-locked fiber ring laser to the reference frequency over 10 GHz using a phase-locked loop (PLL), a balanced mixer is often used as a phase comparator of the PLL. However, the available frequency range synchronized to the reference is quite narrow. In this paper, we propose a method to sweep the pulse repetition frequency to the synchronization range of the PLL by using digital signal processing, and to stabilize the laser to a synchronized state through proportional integral derivative (PID) control. The proposed algorithm achieved frequency synchronization in the preliminary experiment replacing the fiber laser to a voltage-controlled oscillator. Using the same algorithm, we successfully observed the frequency synchronization a mode-locked fiber, though frequency fluctuation less than several hertz still remained.
