Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Baseball pitching is a coordinative movement of the lower limbs, the trunk and the upper limbs. If an appropriate coordination among them is accomplished, the motion energy of the upper limb is known to increase. Such phenomenon is called the kinetic chain. The trunk connecting the lower and upper limbs functions as a relay point in the kinetic chain. As one of the coaching terms of the trunk, the stretching of the chest is frequently used, but has been analyzed qualitatively. In order to achieve its quantitative analysis, we developed a novel parameter, denoted as S, in our previous study. In this study, we applied S into the analysis of pitching motion in order to scrutinize the kinetic chain from the lower limbs to the upper limb on the pitching side, including the stretching of the chest. The time-series analysis of the angular velocity of the body elements and the rate of the change of S suggested that the kinetic chain could occur in a sequence of the counter clockwise rotation of the chest, the shrink of the chest and the internal rotation of the shoulder.
