Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Many studies of vibration locus for ultrasonic metal welding have been reported. The studies have been shown that the two-dimension vibration locus is valid for the improvement of weld strength. We have proposed the use of a planar vibration locus. We developed a method to generate vibration with a planar locus for metal welding; in the method, a one-dimensional ultrasonic longitudinal-torsional vibration source with diagonal slits on the vibration converter is driven at two separate frequencies simultaneously. In experiments, a copper plate and an aluminum plate were used as welding targets. As a result, the method of ultrasonic welding using planar vibration locus obtained high weld strength than welding using linear vibration locus in the same static pressure.
