EEG features of recognizing facial expressions

(in English) We investigated the relationship between the electroencephalogram (EEG) reaction to facial photographs which showed emotions and the impression of them evaluated subjectively by two-dimensional scale consisting of “arousal-sleepy” and “pleasant-unpleasant.” First, subjective rating scale values of facial photographs were classified into two “facial expression clusters” by cluster analysis, which were “pleasant cluster” and “unpleasant cluster.” Second, we computed the event-related potentials (ERPs) of recognizing facial photographs of each cluster and determined the time when the significant difference between the ERPs of the two facial expression clusters appeared by using t-test. Also, we confirmed it was possible to presume the facial expression clusters from the features of the ERPs.
