A Design of MIMO Decoder using LLR Approximation without Maximum Value Calculation

(in English) In Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) decoders, soft decision bits in the form of Log Likelihood Ratio (LLR) are often used to obtain high error correction capability when used with an outer error correcting code. LLR plays an important role in signal detection, but due to its high complexity, research for complexity reduction of LLR hardware complexity is needed. In this paper, we propose a design of MIMO decoder using LLR approximation with low complexity achieved by approximating the maximum value calculation. Our proposed method approximate LLR using the bit shift of the minimum value already calculated. We show that our proposed design can reduce 27% of the circuit size and the power consumption while maintaining the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of the conventional method.
