Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Inserting attenuators between transceivers and antennas is proposed to improve spacial channel reuse in carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA)-based wireless LANs.
Using attenuators enables the access points (APs) or stations to equivalently decrease the powers of transmission signals and received signals. The decrease of the received signals is equivalent to the increase of the carrier sense threshold at the transceiver.
This inversely proportional setting of transmission power and carrier sense threshold provides a novel solution for the unfairness problem caused by the difference in transmission power.
The aggregated spectral efficiency of two transmitter-receiver pairs is formulated and a sufficient condition for achieving higher aggregated spectral efficiency compared to the spectral efficiency without using attenuators is derived.
In addition, the enhancement of aggregated spectral efficiency is numerically evaluated.
