Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation for Bandwidth-Variable Path Protection in Optical Layer-2 Switch Network

(in English) We are developing an optical layer-2 switch network which utilizes both WDM and TDM technologies and centralized control scheme in order to create future large-scale metro networks cost-effectively. Generally, network reliability is important for providing carrier-grade services. Hence several kinds of fault recovery methods have been developed. This paper presents a dynamic bandwidth allocation method for realizing path protection in large-scale networks that provide bandwidth-variable optical paths. The proposed method can achieve a reduction in computation cost and efficient utilization of network resources by using logical path grouping, which realizes periodic bandwidth optimization following traffic fluctuation. We also report on our performance evaluation through computer simulation.
