Spatially Oriented Format for Acoustics (SOFA) for Exchange Data of Head-related Transfer Functions

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page) 
(in English) Head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) and directional room impulse responses (DRIRs) are available to render/synthesize acoustical spatial information. Furthermore, perceptual cues and physical characteristics of acoustic space are included inside. Therefore, many research groups/institutes have tried to measure and store HRTFs/DRIRs. However, measurement setups, such as sound source, coordinate, distance, and room conditions, are different among measurements. It is difficult, therefore, to utilize multi data provided by different institutes in a unified way. The spatially oriented format for acoustics (SOFA) aims at representing HRTFs/DRIRs in a general way. The SOFA standard has been confirmed at Audio Engineering Society (AES) and it will be published soon. This report describes the idea of SOFA and its details.
