Low-Voltage-Operation Capacitance Detection Circuit for On-Chip Microparticle Manipulation

(in English) This paper presents a microparticle sensor circuit for microparticle manipulation using a way of dielectrophoresis. When microparticles move near sensor electrodes, the capacitance between the electrodes changes. This change can be detected as a current change using CBCM circuit, and it changes to square wave voltage signal. Comparing the reference signal and the sensor signal, we detect microparticles. This sensor circuit has been fabricated with a 0.18-μm CMOS process. Experimental results reveal capacitance measurement within error of 4 fF. To design the sensor circuit, some low-voltage circuit techniques are utilized. For more low-voltage operation, the modified sensor circuit is designed and its feasibility is confirmed by circuit simulation.
