Maximum Available Efficiency Formula for Linear Two-Port Sinusoidal Wave Power Transfer Systems -- Lucid Derivation before Learning a Word of Source Impedance Matching --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The maximum available efficiency is a key factor in designing wireless power transfer systems. Professors and engineers nevertheless often refer to the term with opaque knowledge on its essential meaning. This stems from its quite complicated formulation. This lecture starts from a two-port black box model representing an arbitrary scheme of wireless power transfer system. Assuming its immittance matrix known, we express the input and output power as quadratic polynomials of RF voltages and currents at the ports. One of Jacobean matrix determinant zeros leads to the optimum set of voltages and currents that lets the power transfer efficiency reach its peak. The formulation never assumes any resonance, mode coupling, source property, or even impedance matching at all. Free from taking those conditions into account, the introduced efficiency angle θ works as an elegant design criterion for sundry genera of future wireless power transfer systems.
