Ultra wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) technology is a potential candidate in implant body area networks (BAN) where the communication is between the inside and outside of human body. UWB-IR technology can accomplish low power consumption and high data rate with an extremely short pulse. However, due to the high frequencies used, UWB-IR signal suffers from large attenuation in implant BAN communication, which makes it difficult to achieve a reliable communication performance. In this paper, we discuss transmit polarization diversity for UWB-IR communication. We first design antenna for transmit polarization diversity. Then, we calculate correlation coefficient between each polarized wave, when we place transmit antenna in the human body, and the
receive antenna on the surface of body respectively. Finally, we evaluate BER (bit error rate) performance for the
transmit polarization diversity based on calculated correration coefficients. The results suggest the possibility of
transmit plarization diversity for UWB-IR communication. |
