A Study on Bit-Interleaved Spinal Codes

(in English) In this paper, we analyze the bit error rate (BER) performance of a new rateless code named {em spinal code} and reveal the essential issues in its encoding process.
Specifically, we show that the collisions at the output of both hash and random number generator functions cause the error floor and propose a new encoding scheme.
Moreover, in order to overcome burst errors in wireless channels, we apply bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) to spinal codes.
Numerical results confirm that bit-interleaved spinal codes achieve the superior BER performance.
