This paper presents cell search time performance based on the Long Term Evolution (LTE) synchronization signals with the same frequency spectrum for heterogeneous networks including indoor small cells. We assume the indoor small cell models in the hotzone buildings that are specified in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) technical specification. By the system-level simulation, we show that the initial cell search time for the heterogeneous network including indoor small cells becomes shorter compared to that for only the macrocell deployment when a location of user equipment (UE) is distributed non-uniformly. Moreover, even for the dense deployment scenario employing the same frequency spectrum, it is shown that the fast cell search time such as 60 ms at the detection probability of 99 % in the cumulative distribution is achieved for both inter- and intra-small cell cluster synchronous operation with inter-macrocell asynchronous operation, and inter-cell site synchronous operation for all the cells. As a result, we confirm the effectiveness of the small cell deployment in the hotzone buildings from the viewpoint of achieving the fast cell search time performance when using the same frequency spectrum. |
