Data Integrity in BASE Transactions

(in English) Google App Engine (GAE) is one of the most popular PAAS (Platform As A Service) type cloud computing environments,
which provides us with the capability for implementing low-cost and high-quality database transaction systems.
When we consider running such important systems as enterprise operational systems, the difficulty in performance prediction
would become an obstacle to migrating those systems into the GAE environment. Since the structure and performance data of
GAE are not opened to general public, it seems difficult to build a performance estimation model based on the GAE internal
structure. This paper presents a modeling and simulation based approach to GAE performance prediction, focusing on the
APIs that GAE provides. Each transaction is modeled as a series of these APIs with the control structure, e.g. branches and
loops. The delay of each API is estimated using the performance parameters obtained through system measurements. As modeling
and simulation tools, Colored Petri Net (CPN) and CPM tools are used. The paper focuses on the transaction systems
using GAE Datastore, which are written with Java JDO.
