[Special Talk] Discrimination of neuron and astrocyte using optical imaging data

(in English) Various optical imaging techniques have been developed to evaluate detailed spatio-temporal neural information in the brain, e.g., membrane potential imaging and Ca2+ imaging. The structure of these imaging data for each recording is three-dimensional, two of them are for space and one is for time axis. We can detect tissue level neural activations and investigate its spatial pattern using membrane potential imaging data with applying cross correlation analysis, moreover extract dynamical information of neural activation with employing autoregressive model based analysis. We can observe cell level activations and spatio-temporal propagation of neural signals with Ca2+ imaging data and discriminate spatial distribution of neurons and astrocytes together with corresponding EGFP-RFP image (EGFP: enhanced green fluorescent protein, RFP: Red Fluorescent Protein). In this talk I will review methodological studies of spatio-temporal analysis for the membrane potential imaging and some ongoing studies of image processing for the Ca2+ imaging data.
