Improvement of "Yes/No" Communication Method for ALS Patients Utilizing Cerebral Blood Volume

An “Yes/No” communication method has been studied for ALS(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) patients with no movement of their bodies. The method uses cerebral blood volume changes measured with near-infrared light and it has been used in the product. The research on its improvement is under progress and an experiment of accuracy rate study was done on measurement positions of left and right forehead for 3 ALS patients. The result has shown that one subject gives higher accuracy rate by about 25% on the right forehead than on the left forehead (with 1% significant level). It is recommended to provide a probe which is able to measure the both forehead positions in the next upgrade of the product. |
