[Invited Talk] The Battlefront of Acoustic Noise Control for Mobile Terminals -- Basics and Recent Results --

(in English) Basics and recent results on acoustic noise control in mobile terminals are presented.
Input signal from a microphone unit is often contaminated by interference and/or noise
other than the target signal.
In order to reduce those undesirable signal components and enhance the target signal,
a variety of signal processing techniques are used with a single or multiple microphones.
Consumer products which benefit from these techniques include but not limited to cellphone handsets, digital still cameras (compact or SLR) and camcorders, voice recorders, PCs and tablet computers, TV receivers, and gaming controllers.
Starting from basic single channel signal enhancement in the frequency domain,
two-channel processing and multi-channel processing also known as microphone arrays
are briefly explained.
Types of noise to be covered include environmental noise, mechanical noise, and impact (or transient) noise.
Problems and solutions that include recent topics are discussed for each application from a viewpoint of the algorithm and implementation.
